How the discount ladder works
Your assistant can offer a discount, but it never leads with one and it can’t give your store away. The discount ladder sets how far it can go.
The two numbers on your ladder
- First step: the code the assistant offers first.
- Cap: the most any customer can ever get. Codes never go above it.
Both are set in your agreement. Owners can see them in Settings › Store › Agreement and on the Discount guardrails card on Campaigns. To change them, just ask us.
How the assistant climbs it
- Ask before sending a code. When price is the reason, the assistant asks whether a personal code would help. A yes means they’re halfway to ordering. A no tells it the problem is something else, like shipping or fit.
- Start at your first step. Most people who hesitate on price say yes to the first step. Starting at your cap gives margin away for nothing.
- Go to your cap once, only if they still hesitate. One final offer at your cap. Never a third offer, never above the cap.
The codes themselves
- Personal and single-use. Each code is made for one customer in one conversation and works once.
- 24 hours. Codes expire after a day, so they don’t get shared around or turn into a standing discount.
- Made in your Shopify. They’re real Shopify discount codes, applied by the checkout link the assistant sends.
- No code before a reply. The first message never contains a code or a link.
You can see each code’s state in the conversation’s side panel: Active, Used or Expired, with its step on the ladder.
Why codes matter for billing
A sale counts as ours only when the customer uses one of these one-use codes. No code, no fee. See What counts as an attributed sale.
